Hello! I am McMillan James and I am a Registered Psychologist with experience spanning academic and clinical counselling settings. I earned my BA in Psychology and my Masters of Counselling with a focus on Addiction and Mental Health. During my graduate studies I completed my thesis on the Phenomenological Experience of Athletic Retirement. My clinical experience encompasses: addiction counselling with youth, Family School Liaison Counsellor for District 51, and the provision of psychological services for Canadian Back Institute and Lethbridge Integrated Service Court.
I am intentional in creating an environment where you can slow down, catch your breath, and regain your balance. I value a client-centered and collaborative approach. Together, we will process and integrate challenging experiences and limiting beliefs that allow for a more fulfilled and grounded way of living. My therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Humanistic theories. Additional competency includes although not limited to administering and interpreting Psycho-Educational Assessments.
In order to bring my whole heart and presence into my work, I thoroughly enjoy my “off-time” which involves walking my adorable spicy pup, adventuring with my husband, practicing yoga, meditation, and reading.
